It certainly doesn't shock me that people on the streets care for people.  I've seen this first hand. The thing is there are many people doing great acts like these regularly and we should be equally appreciative of all. The fact that every time Faron Hall comes up the word homeless also does is depressing.  Thank this guy a lot for what he did. Not because he's homeless and he did it. Don't treat him like somehow he's "underneath" the average Canadian and still did something that was actually good. Within that, however, much as to be asked.  Every situation is unique.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Like others have said, I don&amp;#39;t think you are being paid to be a Christian, but rather you are being supported in your God-given calling to serve His people. If it was just about the money you could do something easier, less involved, less personal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just think - fellow Christians strongly feel that it's important to have leaders who are able to devote their lives to studying, sharing, leading by example, and bringing then together through Christ. They're willing to fund that so that you don't have to spend 40 hours a week doing something else, leaving little time or energy left to concentrate on what it is to be a Christian and to be a leader in a Christian community. I don't think getting paid cheapens it at all. When I walk over a bridge over the Red River, I cannot imagine ANYONE going into that swift moving, cold water so it surprises me that someone did that.  I am so happy that it was a homeless man so that people actually put a face and name to one of "them".  It is the "us and them" mentality that saddens me so I am pleased that one of "them" became one of "us" for a while.  Hopefully for some of us that will last longer than just a few days. We can romanticize that, but the reality is that it isn't always easy to see God in them.  I think that was God's little trick- if we put all out energy into seeing God in them (in whose image they are created) we won't have time to get distracted by judging their failing. I appreciate your words of encouragement.  I realize that "loving those in your midst deeply is the longterm answer."  However, it is interesting that sometimes this is the most difficult thing to do well.  I tend to take them for granted too often.  I really liked the way Steve Bell wrote the benediction to the book.  I appreciated it because the whole idea of actually seeing people, that is what I sensed throughout the book, and something that I have been striving to do myself.  With everyone I encounter, those on the margins, my close friends, the youth I work with, etc.  Thank you for taking the time to comment.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Tiffany, thanks for your comments.
